Joshua Tree Camping
Camping in Joshua Tree National Forest in Southern California is best in the months of October- April when the harsh temperatures of the desert cools down. This year, in 2011, they're celebrating its 75th Anniversary!
We decided to take our pop-up trailer out and enjoy the beautiful and alien landscape.
This is what my hubby loves to do. Look how giddy he looks.
Of course, Mocha, our pup came along too. These forest are protected so no dogs are allowed on any trails. It's a good thing because there are tons of rattle snakes and other desert critters out there. Mocha didn't mind hanging around the camp grounds with her chew.
Bacon is always great outdoors. Thanks Wil for manning the bacon station.
Breakfast of champions
First night dinner was beef stew that simmered in this cast iron dutch oven for hours. The stew was gone before I had a chance to take a photo of it. Darn!
Entertainment.
The Joshua Tree, the largest of the yuccas, grows only in the Mojave Desert. Mormon pioneers are said to have named this species "Joshua" Tree because it mimicked the Old Testament prophet Joshua waving them, with upraised arms, on toward the promised land.
Then I took Olivia, Kim and Wil's youngest daughter on a little photo expedition. She's such a great little model.
Finally- night time.
With fireplace blazing, and cigars out, it's great time to bond with our amazing friends.
I snuck off to the side, and experimented with night long exposure photography.
Eerie, but super cool right?
Kevin slept under the stars- literally. He did however, wake up to the most beautiful sunrise.
After packing up to go home, Paul and Mocha played the last game of tug of war.
