Found- Tropicana Bakery & Cuban Cafe in Downey, California

trop2
I am posting about Tropicana Bakery & Cuban Cafe in Downey because they have the best Guayaba or Guava pastry in the whole entire world. It's actually a very simple dessert- puff pastry with a guava filling. But this puff pastry has a very special guava filling - it's best described like a can of Kerns Guava Nectar that has been condensed down to a perfect curd. I used to drink Kerns Guava Nectar like water, until I found out how much sugar content it had. (Sigh) Ok, back to the pastries. Now a closer look.

All the workers look like they're on a vacation...on a tropical island. Maybe that's why their service is slow?

Besides the guava pastries, they have pan dulces or sweet breads, other pastries filled with mango, bbq chicken, or pork as well as assortment of amazing cakes and breads.
I have to warn you that this restaurant has VERY SLOOOOOW service, especially if you're sitting in for a meal or coffee. If that wasn't bad enough, I totally got yelled at for taking photos with my point and shoot. Even though the service was slow and I got yelled at, I would still come back for those yummy Guayaba pastries.
