Real Food Styling & Photography Workshop

I follow Matt and Adam on their blog, Mattbites.com like a 12 year old tweenager girl following Justin Beiber. When these two pop star food photographer and stylist opened up their Saturday workshop for amateur wanna be's like me, I signed up immediately. I'm glad I did, because this class filled up in few hours after it was announced. There are a lot of Matt and Adam groupies out there.

First assignment was to construct a burger. Adam taught us to nip, tuck, and assemble ordinary ingredients into delectable works of art. My favorite part was using a blow torch to give our pale boca burger patties a nice grill tan line.

Next was pasta. I treated the spaghetti like a hair stylist. I twirled and coiffed the noodles into loose bundles and used a tweezer to attach herbs, diced sun-dried tomatoes, and set it with a generous sprinkle of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.

Hmmm...I don't know if this angle is better for the pasta.

Then came the most important lesson. Having the best cream dollop. We practiced with Cool Whip until we were able to get the best fluffy cloud of goodness. It takes technique and patience, and is so hard to do. My dollop looks so sad perched so high on this dessert.

After each food styling session- it was time to take the photos! I have to say, my burger and the pasta dish got a lot of attention from the foodie paparazzi (a.k.a. my class mates)

I love fries.

The best thing other than styling our own food and taking photos is I got to meet other bloggers who love writing, styling, cooking, and photographing food. Here are some of their sites. This tells me I better step up on my bloggin'
