On our 3rd day in Cozumel, I woke up in the morning greeted by a dark overcasting darkness that was looming over the island instead of the usual piercing sunshine. Coming from California, I thought it was going to be a muggy day, possibly followed by rain. I went outside of our hotel lobby, this is what I saw.
I asked one of the hotel workers, "Que paso?"
Their reply was, "Eh, nothing Senorita. Small storm coming through. This is just a precaution."
I got back to the room and checked the CNN news. "Hurricane Paula, Category 2 is heading towards the Yucatan, with Cozumel being affected on the tail end."
We anticipated the worst so we went to Mega, the super market to stock up on booze and food. Little did I know that in Mexico, if you are hit with a Hurricane warning, its illegal to sell alcohol after 4pm. Good thing for us, we were already stocked up some great tequila back at the hotel room. The next morning, the boards were magically lifted off and the sun was back again. Lucky for us, the Hurricane left quickly as it came.
