Food in Cozumel and the Yucatan

IMG_0501 copy
Let me tell you that when you travel to Cozumel and the Yucatan, finding 50 cent tacos (American dollar) is now impossible to find. Now, you can easily spend $20 (American dollars) on a meal- tortillas, shrimp, chips, and salsa- in a run down shack that would easily deserve a "C" grade or less here in the U.S.A.

But don't give hope... because these yummy, delectable places, with 50 cent tacos is still around- If you know where to find them.

When Paul, Bernie, Erica, and I went to Cozumel, we were determined to find the best taco places in town. When we arrived to Cozumel, we paid $70 dollars for a meal that should've cost us only $30. We were hungry, but we were right next to the Cruise Line terminals.

So after the first mistake, we were determined to fine THE BEST PLACE TO EAT. We asked a hotel concierge (Don't trust them- they're programmed to take you to the most expensive places.) But the best source of information for bargain local foods....are the cab drivers. The first and the best place we went to eat after the debacle was called, " Las Seras".

Don't think that I would settle for someplace dirty and cheap. This taco place was clean, and all the meats were roasted and served hot off the grill. All the locals know of this place and considers it their favorite. From the menu, "Tortas", a Milaneza is 24 pesos, or about $2 (US) and Jamon is 20 pesos...or about $1.80 (US).

They are open from 7pm- 4am. The best dish is "Al Pastor" tacos, which are $8 pesos, or 60 cents per taco (okay...it's not quite 50 cents, but close!). The next best thing is pork chop tacos... don't know the name in Spanish but it was delicious! With cold horchata drink, the whole meal (about 20 tacos) ended up costing us 200 pesos, or $18 dollar U.S.

Before that, we went to "Mega" the super market to grab some yummy pre-
dessert...for about 50 Cents per bread.

But not to discount the Yucatan, we found the BEST taco restaurant next to a gas station on our way to Tulum.

And for the record, nobody (Paul, Erica, Bernie, and I) got sick. :)
Note: From the Cruise Terminal, "Las Seras" is only 7 minutes away or a $8 (US) cab ride. "Mega" supermarket is only 5 minutes away.

My partner and I really enjoyed reading this blog post, I was just itching to know do you trade featured posts? I am always trying to find someone to make trades with and merely thought I would ask.
