Catalina Birthday

Paul got me the ultimate gift- a day trip to Catalina Islands. I've lived in LA for a long time, and traveled thousands of miles to other countries, but never bothered to take an hour on Catalina Express and check out the island. The trip over was smooth and the boat was ultra luxurious, with a bar and cushy seats. With a day pack filled with camera equipment, water, a swim suit, and a jacket, we were headed out by 10am.

Now Paul has been to the Islands many times- he went there frequently for scuba dive training for work, so I knew that he arranged this trip just for me. When I arrived at the island, it was nothing I expected. Apart from overcast fogged in day in Long Beach, Catalina was sunny and beautiful. The hill sides were dotted with cute historical buildings, and lush green landscape seemed like we were a hundred miles away from home.

The town is small and quaint, so after getting a hurried brunch of oysters and fish and chips, we headed out to hike the mountains of Catalina. We thought we chose a nice easy hike, but after 2 hours of incline, and me swearing underneath my breath, we decided to turn back and get a nice Italian meal. The food was delicious, and Paul got a malt shake for dessert, while I got the best caramel apple I have ever eaten my entire life.

Of course, I lugged around the big camera and got spectacular shots. I get home, and for some reason, my computer wiped out the whole entire card. Instead of getting mad and smashing my computer in a gazillion pieces, I just remembered what a great day I had, and left at that.

So, no pictures tonight.....
